Job Title: Senior QA Automation Engineer

Location: Greenbelt, MD

Duration: 6 month contract to hire

Locals to VA/MD/DC – Must go for in person interview.

Required Years of Exp: 10 years with Bachelors, or 8 years with Masters Degrees

This does require candidates to get a Public Trust so requires them to have a GC or US Citizenship.

Description

We are seeking a Senior Level Automation Test Engineer. As part of our elite team, you will play a pivotal role in the system development cycle and consult with end users to evaluate business requirements into design specifications. You will work with all levels of the business, ensuring IT deliverables align with business requirements, with measurable results. More specifically:
• Design, develop and execute complex automated software test plans in order to identify and address user problems and their causes.
• Analyze risk identifiers and develop documentation addressing software defect diagnostics and proposed solutions in the areas such as database impacts, software scenarios, regression testing, negative testing, retests, or usability.
• Design and develop testing processes and direct software application testing, leveraging knowledge of computer science and software development principles and utilizing Ruby, AWS, Chef, Jenkins, Java, Selenium, and Appium.
• Coordinate the work of project teams along multiple workstreams.
• Develop and execute test scenarios, scripts, and procedures for unit, process, function, system integration, and acceptance testing. Review testing documentation, develop testing standards, define criteria for testing, analyze test results, and present results to developers and end users.
• Develop software quality engineering procedures and strategies including functional, performance, regression, and roll-back testing scenarios, scripts, or procedures.
• Oversee quality testing efforts including process design and standards, effort estimation, resource forecasting and fulfillm

Summary

A QA Automation Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and executing automated testing solutions to ensure the quality, reliability, and performance of software applications. This role works closely with development, DevOps, and business teams to embed quality throughout the software development lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain automated test scripts and frameworks for web, API, and application testing.
• Translate business and functional requirements into detailed, reusable automated test cases.
• Execute automated test suites and analyze results to identify defects, regressions, and performance issues.
• Debug test failures, investigate root causes, and collaborate with development teams to resolve issues.
• Integrate automation scripts into CI/CD pipelines to enable continuous testing.
• Participate in test planning, test strategy, and test design activities across projects.
• Optimize and enhance test frameworks for scalability, maintainability, and performance.
• Ensure security, performance, and regression testing are incorporated into automation processes.
• Prepare and maintain comprehensive test documentation, reports, and defect tracking.
• Support release cycles by validating builds and verifying fixes in test and production environments.
• Evaluate and adopt new automation tools, frameworks, and best practices.
• Mentor junior QA engineers and promote test automation standards across the team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• 2-5 years of experience in software testing with a strong focus on automation.
• Proficiency in automation tools such as Selenium and programming languages such as Java and/or Python.
• Working knowledge of databases and SQL for data validation.
• Solid understanding of software development life cycle (SDLC) and so

Responsibilities
• Supports execution of test plans primarily automated tests and occasionally manual tests.
• Develops a basic understanding of the test automation framework(s) being used.
• Assists with creating/maintenance of the automation test suite and reporting on its status.
• Provides estimates to senior QA automation engineers and highlights any difficulty in meeting these targets.
• Identifies, researches, and tracks defects towards their resolution closely within QA Team.
• Maintain manual testing responsibilities while transitioning over to Automation tasks as relevant.
• Must be able to work hybrid in-office two days per week.
• Completes all responsibilities as outlined on annual Performance Plan.

• Degree in computer science, information systems, or similar technical education preferred.
• Able to operate in a team environment, as well as independently when necessary.
• Reasonable understanding of Web APIs and how to interact with them.
• Able to contribute to testing strategies and design and assisting with selecting appropriate methodologies based on change sets and acceptance criteria.
• Able to debug software applications using stack traces, output logs, and debugging tools.
